Ideal Refiners is a physical shop at 70 Bowery #1.1, New York. This statement covers our website, idealrefiners.com. For the shop itself, see visiting us in person below.
What we're aiming for
We build against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and by New York State and City accessibility guidance.
We believe this site substantially meets Level AA. We say “substantially” deliberately: no site is ever finished, we add pages and blog posts regularly, and automated checking cannot catch everything. Where we fall short, we would rather tell you and fix it than claim otherwise.
What we've done
- Keyboard access.Every link, button, form field and the quote flow can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to main content” link appears when you first press Tab, so you don't have to walk through the menu on every page.
- Visible focus. Whatever the keyboard is on is outlined clearly, and we never remove that outline without putting something equally visible in its place.
- Screen readers.Pages use real headings, landmarks and lists rather than styled text. Every form field has a label that is read aloud, and buttons that show a chosen option announce whether they're selected.
- Images. Images that carry meaning have text alternatives. Purely decorative ones are marked so screen readers skip them instead of reading out filenames.
- Contrast. Text meets the 4.5:1 contrast minimum against its background (3:1 for large headings). We checked every colour pair in our palette and darkened the ones that fell short.
- Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the animated reveals and the shimmer on buttons stop. Nothing on the site flashes.
- Zoom and small screens. The site reflows to 200% zoom and down to narrow phone widths without losing content or needing you to scroll sideways.
- Plain language. We explain what we buy, how appraisal works and what happens to your details without industry jargon.
Where we know we fall short
Being specific here is more useful to you than a blanket claim:
- Older blog posts.Articles published before September 2026 may contain images with weak or missing alt text, and a few tables that are awkward to read with a screen reader. We're working through them.
- The chat assistant. Our chat widget (Kara) is usable by keyboard, but new messages aren't always announced promptly by every screen reader. If chat isn't working for you, the quote form and the phone number below do exactly the same job.
- Third-party content. Embedded maps and any content served by other companies are outside our direct control. We choose accessible providers where we can and will always give you a direct alternative — for our location, the address is written out in text on every page.
- The accessibility toolbar. The widget in the corner of the page offers text resizing, contrast and spacing adjustments. It's there as a convenience, not as a substitute for the site being built properly — we don't treat it as making us compliant, and we'd rather you tell us when the underlying page is the problem.

How this statement was prepared
This statement was last reviewed on 10 September 2026. It is based on a self-assessment: a review of the site's markup, keyboard operation, and a contrast check of every colour pair used for text. We have not yet commissioned an independent audit or formal testing with assistive-technology users, and we'd rather say so than imply a level of assurance we haven't bought.
We review this statement whenever we make significant changes to the site, and at least once a year.
